Re: IREM Arcade Hits

Very incomplete and unoptimized collection. Terrible controller options.

You're better off using MAME or a similar emulator and getting the ROMs from emuparadise or whereever.

Re: IREM Arcade Hits

What could be a great collection of games from legendary Irem software, packed together for the convenience of the modern and old gamers alike, becomes a real bad deal because of completely broken control suport, bad music quality and complete lack of extras.

The games bundled here are really fantastic, except for the lack of some great hits (R-type 1 and 2, Moon Patrol and other titles). Most of them are shooters, but they are varied and well done. You have also some brawlers to mix it a bit. It's a great collection, but if you don't have a arcade controler or a old controler WITHOUT analogic sticks, stay away. I explain: If you have a analogic stick, it will be set as the default controler (you CAN'T change it). The problem, aside from not letting you choose the D-pad, for example, is that the controls are EXTREMELY sensitive, which means most games here become instantly unplayable. You can also play with a keyboard, but do you want to do this?

The other problem is the music. It sounds harsh and doesn't sinc correcly. Also, no extras, just the ROMS without many customization options. For the price, It is not worth it, even when on sale, and I can't recommend it to anyone. This game was released in 2011 (I think this was when it was last patched, actually), so these sad, unexcusable problems are much probably staying forever.

not amused AT ALL Sad

Re: IREM Arcade Hits

Hey fix the bugs with the game play and the problems with the sound not syncing correctly, in other words, the game play and sound stutters. No excuse for this I have a fast enough PC, and I can run arcade games with graphics, sounds, game play, the whole works, better than this, smooth as butter.Angry

Re: IREM Arcade Hits

Why the hell did they have to disable XPadder?! I wasn't interested in cheating! My control stick is too sensitive! Angry

Re: IREM Arcade Hits

Since the sound quality of BGM is severe, please give me correction upgrade.

Re: IREM Arcade Hits

Overall a good compilation, with some great hits like R-Type Leo, Undercover Cops, Hammerin' Harry, In the Hunt and a bunch of less known but nonetheless pretty good shoot'em ups.
Waiting for an "Irem Arcade Hits 2" with all the great hits missing this compilation: R-Type, R-Type II, X-Multiply,Risky Cahllenge...

Re: IREM Arcade Hits

I've greatly enjoyed this collection. While some games are better than others, all of these titles are pretty solid. The collection only has three major shortcomings:

* scratchy sound (though this may be my soundcard)

* no option for Triplebuffering (which eliminates screen-tearing at the cost of some slowdown)

* when playing with an X-Box control, all movement defaults to the left analog stick and there's no way to change it to the D-Pad.

I'm playing version 1.1 so maybe this will all be fixed in a later edition.

I also wish it had included the "Alpha Renewal" version of Undercover Cops and the slightly-harder Japan version of R-Type Leo, instead of the American ones. Perhaps if they ever release an Irem Arcade Hits Volume 2 they can get those out. Please do a Volume 2!

All in all, well worth the fifteen dollars I spent on it.
